Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to schedule a consultation?

The consultation provides a comfortable and confidential atmosphere to discuss your desired outcome from hair restoration, as well as your expectations and concerns. During the consultation, Dr. Barr will discuss the causes of your hair loss and specific treatment options that are available to address your specific hair loss issues. Dr. Barr will complete a thorough assessment and discuss your surgical hair restoration options to achieve your optimized permanent hair replacement. Where appropriate, Dr. Barr may choose to illustrate your possible surgical outcome using digital imaging software. Digital photography will be completed during the consultation process as part of your personal and confidential medical record.

Consultations with Dr. Barr are typically booked 4 to 6 weeks forward. It is possible that consultation appointments extend beyond this time; however, we make every effort to arrange appointments in a timely manner.  Patients can choose to place their name on a waiting list and will be called if an earlier consultation date can be arranged.  We understand that many patients have very busy lives and we can accommodate late afternoon / early evening and early morning appointments for consultations when requested.

Is hair restoration expensive?

Most of our patients find that hair restoration procedures can be very affordable. Financing options are available, which has made hair transplantation more financially feasible for almost every patient that seeks permanent restoration of their hair. All of our patients find that the cost of hair restoration is well worth the long-lasting physical and emotional benefits they gain from restoring their hairline and achieving the youthful appearance of a full head of hair.

General ideas of pricing for most operations can be obtained by phoning the office. The pricing for your procedure will vary depending on your specific needs and the number of grafts that will be needed to improve your condition. For this reason, you can expect to be provided with an accurate price quote after a thorough consultation with Dr. Barr.

If I decide to go ahead with a hair restoration procedure is there a long wait?

For operations performed at the Hair Restoration Clinic, our patient co-ordinator will work with you to find a date and time that works for your schedule. Patients choosing hair restoration surgery often chose late week and Saturday dates to fit their schedule.

This deposit is payable upon scheduling a surgery date.  This fee is non-refundable should you change, reschedule or cancel your surgery for any reason.

When is payment for the surgery due?

Final payment for your surgery is due 14 days prior to your surgery date.

Is hair restoration therapy covered by insurance or OHIP?

Because hair restoration is considered a cosmetic procedure, it is not usually covered by private or provincial insurance such as OHIP. More information about the coverage eligibility of your procedure can be obtained during the consultation process.

How long will my results last?

Hair Restoration procedures are permanent, meaning that the transplanted hairs will continue to grow normally in the recipient area for the remainder of your life. In addition to your hair transplantation procedure, Dr. Barr will provide medical options to prevent or reverse the non-transplanted hair from continuing to thin or recede. Dr. Barr will explain the treatment plan that will ensure you achieve the best possible result immediately after your procedure and for years to come.

Will I be left with any scars?

While all surgery results in some scarring. Dr. Barr uses the most advanced techniques to minimize and disguise scars to ensure that it is minimal. Most patients find that the donor site is imperceptible after some time has passed and the healing has occurred. The outcome is dependent on the method by which your donor hairs are extracted and will be discussed with you during consultation. Dr. Barr is extremely proficient at disguising donor sites with your current hair so that they are not noticeable immediately after your procedure.

How much time off will I need after my procedure?

The amount of time that you will need for recovery depends on the area that is treated, the number of FUT you need to provide permanent correction for your hair loss, and the type of work you do. Some patients have minimal swelling and can return to light activities almost immediately. Others with more extensive procedures may need slightly more time off work. Some patients choose to wear a hat, while others schedule their procedure prior to taking some vacation time. An accurate determination of your down time after surgery can be made during your consultation with Dr. Barr.
